Duplicating notes

I figured this out on my own, but now have forgotten how I did it: I was able to highlight a note and then duplicate it so that when I then moved it up to a different pitch the original note was still there. I was able to build a chord off of one note by doing this duplication on the note and then moving it to the desired pitch. How did I do that? Thanks!
