USBMUXD and iPhone.

I'm not sure if this is an iPhone issue or not so I apologise if this is in the wrong thread.

I have an iMac and a MacBook Air, and I sync my iPhone 4S via WIFI to the iMac. However, on the Air I get constant connection messages in the console log, as below:

21/02/2012 19:19:38.274 com.apple.usbmuxd: _SendAttachNotification (thread 0x7fff7ac8d960): sending attach for device d0:23:XX:XX:XX:XX@fe80::d223:dbff:XXXX:XXXX._apple-mobdev._tcp.local.: _GetAddrInfoReplyReceivedCallback matched.

This is with the iPhone sitting idle.

A few seconds later there is a corresponding Disconnect message. The cycle then repeats about every 5 minutes and continues until I turn off the computer or WIFI on the iPhone.

The MAC address quoted is that of my iPhone. iTunes is not running on the Air and they are not connected by USB. If I start iTunes the iPhone does not appear there. I am concerned that the constant WIFI activity must be draining the iPhone battery.

It only happens if I'm logged onto the Air with the same username that I use on the iMac which syncs with the iPhone.

Any ideas what is causing this, and how I can stop it?

Andy.

I'm not 100% certain, but this is probably because the iPhone turns off the wifi radio when sleeping to conserve battery. The USB multiplexing daemon will periodically ping the iPhone to make sure it's still on the network, and when the phone doesn't reply to these pings, it causes an error, as to be expected since the phone is no longer on the network. When the phone reconnects to the network, it broadcasts a ping to see if any computers it can sync with are on the network.

What you're seeing in Console are the log messages detailing the connect/disconnect/pings from usbmuxd. There is nothing to worry about, it's just debugging information in case there is an issue.
