canon cmfp printer driver error window

Hey there.

Just picked up the Canon MF8350Cdn Multi-function printer. It works great for the most part but there is one VERY annoying issue.

I dragged the printer to my desktop for drag-and-drop usage. When I drag multiple files to the printer it sends and prints them fine but for every file an error window pops up and then goes away a second later. Its not actually affecting the job but it is SO OBNOXIOUS. In the time it took me to type this message ive had to stop and hit okay about 20 times. Not kidding. ****. Just happened again. HELP PLEASE!

Thanks in advance.

-E.

PS Im running snow leopard with all updates inc printer drivers etc.

Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Not really. This way requires you to open each document in the supporting application and then select to print. So if you have multiple small files rather than a single file of many pages, then this will be annoying. But at this stage we don't know what is causing the error. Is it the printer or the driver or the printing system? Personally I think it is the UFR2 driver and the error is a result of dropping multiple files on the printer alias. Do you drop them one after the other or grab several files at once?

Okay. For times when there is just several, you could try opening one of the PDFs in Preview and then drag the rest of the files into the sidebar. If you can print this modified file without the error then it shows that it is an issue with your process and the UFR2 driver.

Now I know this is not a fix but it will help in identifying the cause. If the printer supported Postscript or PCL then we could create another queue using the Generic drivers included with SL. But since it is a UFR2-only device you will have to work with getting this driver to function better.

BTW. If you don't want to save the "merged" document as a single PDF then just select 'Don't Save' when you exit Preview.

I'm glad that you guys are able to get your Canon to print.... however, I just reinstalled MAC OS X and updated to 10.6.8 then installed the Canon 8380 drivers from Canon's site and Apple's update for Canon and I'm getting Canon CMFP Printer Driver

Printer is not responding. check the printer power and connection, and then try sending printing job again.

Here's the catch....

If I use a USB cable to print works!

If I use a network cable to print works!

If I try to print wirelessly, it doesn't work.

The printer is setup with a static IP address and connected to my internal network 192.168.1.105 is the Canon

My PC laptops can print wirelessly using the IP address.

My MAC sees the printer when installing and validates, but when trying to print i get the error message.

Canon says "it's my wireless" I doubt it because I already know I can print on PC laptops...

Any ideas?

Are you able to ping the MF from the Mac? If yes, then don't add the printer using Bonjour (ie via the Default Add Printer view) but by selecting IP > LPD. This will require you to enter the IP address of the MF. You can leave the queue name blank and then select the MF model in the Print Using menu.

If that still fails to print then another thought is firewall. The CMFP driver requires bidrectional support.

I can ping from the MAC.... I can even access the GUI from the MAC

I added the Printer using IP... it validates and check out when adding.... but then when I print it pops the error after 15-30 seconds later.

I have used both apple's canon drivers and canon's drivers with no success.

I also checked the MAC firewall and it was off. I turned it on and it asked to allow so i allowed always...

The only thing I have not tried yet is to switch from a Linksys router to a different router....the MAC can connect to the network drivers no problem.... so not sure what else...

Can you open System Profile, select the Printers entry in the sidebar and in the top right pane, select the MF printer. Then in the bottom right pane, select all the data and copy and then paste back here please.

Apple does not supply a driver for this printer. You can only get the UFR2 driver from Canon.
