Q: my powerbook will not turn on

My g4 ibook was running fine, then suddenly shut down.  I cannot get it to restart.  There is no power going to the ibook.

Do you have any suggestions?

OK, we need to know which iBook we are talking about here, as a start.  You might first try a PMU reset from the information at this Apple Support link.

When you say "no power" I am assuming you mean that there is no illumination at the power input connection, either amber or green?  After doing a PMU reset, if this is the case, then it is likely but not guaranteed that the power adapter has failed, or the cable has failed.  Verify that you have a working power outlet (not always a given) and then if you have no power coming to the machine, get hold of a known good power adapter to substitute.

Also, take a close look at the computer-end plug on the power adapter for possible damage, as these had problems, at least in the PowerBook world, up to a running change along about 2005 or 2006 when the strain relief was beefed up considerably.
