Bye Bye Mobile Me. Do I need to buy a new computer?

I got the dreaded email today, again informing me that I need to upgrade to iCloud in the near future because in June, Mobile Me will be gone. Well, I have a 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro (2007) that does not allow me to upgrade to Lion. Does this mean that my 4 internal hard drives, upgraded memory that is almost to the max and upgraded graphics cards and other additions, that to this day makes this a very capable computer and easily fits my workflow in graphics files/storage/ manipulation in CS 5.5 OUTDATED?

Is it time for an upgrade. If this is the case I don't see how Apple can continue selling Mac Pro's if they are obsolete after 5 years. I have a LOT of money sunk into this computer and not have to use it as a secondary computer and be forced to buy a new - - - -WHAT? It probably won't be a new Mac Pro even if they come out with a new model.

I think Apple is being really unfair to those who have invested a lot of money or simply can't afford to buy a new computer that is compatible with Lion.

And I heard that early Dual Core Intels will be obsolete with Mountain LIon coming out in sometime this summer. "OUCH" to a lot of people that even I know. They may have been switchers and got hooked on the fun of upgrading and the use of Mobile Me and all the cool stuff that came with it like iWeb. And now Apple will at least be taking away their ability and joy at upgrading. Is this fair?

What's going to happen in June to my email, iDisk and everything else associated with Mobile Me?

APPLE SAVE MOBILE ME. I'll eventually buy a new computer but i don't need one in June.

Update is to go to a new minor version, like 10.4.6 to 10.4.7

Upgrade is a more involved process, and usually costs money.

You can buy 10.7 Lion for download at the Mac App Store (only). The Mac App store is available when running 10.6.6 or later, and not available in earlier versions.

10.6.3 is available on DVD from the Apple Online Store. Local Apple store are not carrying it any more. You can then use Software Update to get to 10.6.8, and the Mac App Store will appear.

Yes it worked but it was a real pain. I used to have a software raid and I had to get rid of that before I was able to upgrade to Lion. Furthermore, I chose a different user name and that really messed things up by putting all my old documents, iTunes music, bookmarks, etc. in a directory in which everthing was password protected. I finally found everything and got everything moved to the proper user name and now all is good. But it was the most difficult upgrade that I ever had to do.
