HOW TO DOWNGRADE FIRMWARE ON IPOD VIDEO!

These are the directions only for the Video iPod.

http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Drivers/Apple-iPod-Updater-2005-11-17.shtml - Updater for Mac From Softpedia

1. Your iPod needs to be in disk mode (look in iTunes Preferences, under iPod tab) and you need to have your computer set to View Hidden files.

Now navigate to My Computer and open your iPod navigate to iPod_Control\Device
Open SysInfo with Notepad.

Find and change
buildID: 0x06108000
to
buildID: 0x05908000

2. This will trick the iPod Updater into thinking you have an old firmware.
Install the 2005-11-17 Updater. Next, when it is finished installing, restart your comptuer. After the reboot, run the program that you just installed. When it loads, click "Update". Once the program says the update is complete, your iPod has been downgraded.

Yo Gibran, I read your discussions about the downgrade. I followed every step that you stated. However, when I click on the IPodUpdater2005-11-17 and reboot my system still recognizes the latest the version and says that my ipod is already up to date. Is there any other way to fake the system. I have a mac and I didn't understand the hidden files that you mentioned. Please help...

I also, have the 5G 60GB, and it came with the update...and problems. Am I the only person out here who had the video freezing problem exactly as described above, tried to downgrade, couldn't, and the problem completely resolved itself about two weeks after the I purchased the ipod? I also do not seem to have any problems with the backlight? Just curious...I guess I am just lucky.

I am glad you posted this because I was afraid my question would be lost. So, here it is:
When I got my IPod for Christmas I was busy getting ready for a trip so my husband set it up on the computer and I was not really paying attention...so I am not sure if he downloaded the 1.0 updater or if it came on the CD. Regardless, on the Start Menu, in the iPod folder, there are both of them, and the older one has been moved to "Previous Updaters". The shortcut goes to this file:
"F:\Program Files\Ipod\iPod Updater 2005-10-12\iPod Updater 2005-10-12.exe" If I want to merely revert to that one, which is the desirable one, correct? can I just uninstall the most recent one and this one would take over? Or is there more to it? I guess what I am getting at is that I don't have to download anything to get the previous one but I am still in the dark about how to get there.

Now, the reason I want to go back is that my iPod won't turn off if there is anything currently playing so I have to back up to the beginning of whatever playlist I am on until the Now Playing is gone, and then, maybe on a good day it will actually shut down rather going into a permanent state of paused. I am not having problems with videos but then I only have a small handful of short 2 minute video podcasts. So, my number one, and basically only, reason for wanting to downgrade is the shutting off problem. Is it worth it? I don't really mind having to copy everything back to the iPod since it is fairly new and only has about 6 gb of stuff on it so far.

Thanks in advance!

A lot of people are still wondering how to downgrade,
so I'm just adding this post to bring the topic to
the front of the forum again.
