Q: why does my apple remote change things on my macbook pro? it opens itunes and plays music and changes the song/volume.

We just got a new TV and added appleTV and the remote interferes with my and my roommates laptops. We all have macbook pro.  How can we get the remote to stop changing the volume/opening and playing itunes tracks/etc???
