Hi

No - Apple has in their sole wisdom - condemned DVD as obsolete (history)

So alternatives are

• Roxio Toast™ - $$$$ - but I love it especially Pro BD-bundle

• Burn - free - but very SIMPLE - No menu etc. http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html

• FinalCut Pro-X - are said to be able to burn DVDs

OR - iLife'11 box as second handed (but see that iDVD is included)

If you can't copy the iDVD application and themes folder to the new Mac and get them to run the following will be needed to get an operational iDVD on the Mac:

If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com. Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.

Why iLife 09 instead of 11?

If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides themes from iDVD 5-7. The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.

Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:

This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:

You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar. Select Size = Medium or Large.

Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.

Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

an Apple support guy and told me that iDVD is no longer included in Mac OS X Lion because it is outdated.

The current version of the Mac OS is tested for compatibility with iDVD. IDVD works perfectly with the latest versions of iMovie and Mac OS.

OK, I buy Mac so that I no longer need to shop around for stuff and the pieces of software work together

Unfortunately, that is no longer the case when you want to make movies. You will need to purchase iDVD separately. ($44)

That's pitiful in my opinion.

You are preaching to the choir.

I'm wondering now that they have the upper hand in the consumer market, how low will their bar go?

We are users just like you. However you can tell Apple using the link below (They do read this feedback and changes do get made).

Apple does listen to it's customers and respond.

I've had a chat today with an Apple support guy and told me that iDVD is no longer included in Mac OS X Lion because it is outdated. OK, I buy Mac so that I no longer need to shop around for stuff and the pieces of software work together, just to learn that Apple discontinued iDVD without shipping a replacement. That's pitiful in my opinion. I'm wondering now that they have the upper hand in the consumer market, how low will their bar go?

I just upgraded to a new iMac, but did not migrate all my applications from old one because many were out of date and no longer going to be useful to me. I copied the iDVD application (ver 7.1.2) individually to the new iMac, but the themes did not come. Program runs but stops because of no themes. I cannot find themes files. I looked for a way to migrate only select programs but failed to find technique.

Any help with this? Thanks
