Cannot access the apple tv menu, no image on tv

I am having problems setting up my new Apple TV box. I have it wired with HDMI cable via my Samsung surround system to my TV but do not see anything on the TV. The LED lights on the Apple TV unit and responds with a blink when the menu button is pressed on the remote but the TV still just shows 'no signal' I have also tried connecting it the the TV direct but get the same result. Can any one help and tell me what I am doing wrong?

AppleTV 2, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

try connecting it directly to the tv

if your tv dont have hdmi then then it will likely never work at all

I have already tied connecting direct to my tv but it still did not work. I have since tried another tv with HDMI input and do get an Apple screen that says I am not connected to my network and that I should go to settings but when I try this by using the Apple TV remote it will not slide across to settings. I have tried pairing the remote and reseting it but still no luck. Any more ideas?
