xcode command line tools

Hello,

I have downloaded Xcode from the app store today. It installed without any problem. When I opened the preferences and then the downloads tab and tried to install the command line tools I get this message:

Failed to mount file://localhost/Users/gg/Library/Caches/com.apple.dt.Xcode/Downloads/Xcode.CLT ools.10.7-1.1.dmg at file://localhost/var/folders/4t/j7hy15pn7ll20wkq6nc6xl280000gn/T/attached-image -c05dd95a56b355aad74e9ce147b236e03ff8905e: invalid checksum

Is there something I can do?.

The 'invalid checksum' may indicate that the file didn't download properly. Can you try to download it again? (yeah, I know - it's a large file, and takes a while).

Actually I found the answer in stackoverflow:

The problem seems to be the checksum of the file in the sever from where I am downloading it. I know this is a hack and probably dangerous:

defaults write com.apple.frameworks.diskimages skip-verify -bool true

but it worked. I don't know how apple distributes the files but the one I was getting had the wrong checksum. I am downloading from europe.

I would be careful with that - the "hack" may be in the package that's stored on the site you downloaded from. Checksums (SHA or MD5 for example) are designed to catch unauthorized alterations, and it could be that it's doing its job! Someone at Apple may have different advice, but I would recommend against installing this.

The link you referenced was interesting... I wonder how Tor figures into this... are you using Tor to d/l the package?

I just attempted to download and install the command line tools as well, both via the App store and from the Appke Developer site. All 4 attempts failed with the same error, failed checksum on disk mount.

Are you in Europe also?

For what it's worth, I just d/l the command tools within the last week, and had no issues. I don't know the source of the file - assume it was an Apple-controlled site as I d/l from the Prefernces in Xcode 4.3.

I'm new here, and I don't know if anyone from Apple monitors the traffic in these groups. It sounds like this is an issue Apple needs to fix. Perhaps you can get their attention from the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of this page.

Yet another way to solve the problem: a VPN. I am in Europe but when I used a VPN in the US and tried again to install the command line tools it worked. My understanding is that either the file or the checksum are invalid for the server I was previously connecting to.

I solved it by downloading xcode and command line tools from the apple developer website rather than using App-Store.

Thank you! This same exact thing happened to me while trying to install from within Germany. I switched to US based VPN and was able to successfully install. Strange. Thanks for work-around.

+1 Same problem. Guessing that is has something to do with the link that I clicked on set the app store to be in US country mode. Since I am not in the US, I'm guessing that is why the checksum is failing.

I too had tried to download the comand line tools 4 times with no success. Here what I solved my problem:

1. Uninstall the software by putting xcode into the trash can.

2. Go to the app store Apple icon on desktop -> App Store ...

3. Scroll down to the bottom, make sure you are in your own country store. If Canada you should see the canadian flag at the bottom. You can click on the flag change the country by clicking on the flag.

4. re-install the xcode

5. launch xcode

6. Preferences select downloads

7. Download command line tools by clicking install

I assume that my original assumtion was correct. It has to do with the incorrect version being downloaded from the app store -- ie download from a different country then you are currently located in.

Hope that helps some people out.
