iCloud mailbox keeps asking me for my password
Why does iCloud mailbox keep asking for my password, even though I have saved the password in the keychain? After I enter the password, I am able to access my mailbox.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

I just posted the same problem.
Hope someone can help us?

I get this from time to time. As long as your details are correct it is likely a temporary glitch with iCloud that'll clear itself. I tend to ignore it and let it sort itself out.
Although they are not up to the minute (or even the hour or three 😉) this link gives some info about iCloud's status:
http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/systemstatus/
Edit to add: If it becomes a persistent problem I'd suggest deleting the email account in Mail and then adding it again. This has worked in the past for me when dealing with other issues.
I got my iMac in December and the problem began as soon as I set up my iCloud email account, and has persisted. I will try your suggestion and report back. Thanks.
I did two things: I deleted and readded my account, as Paul31 suggested. And, I changed my password to one with some capital letters and some numbers. I did this because I read somewhere (sorry, I do not remember where I read this suggestion) that this type of password is preferred by iCloud. YEA! I have not been asked for my password since Feb 23.
Hope this helps someone else.
And I will check back if I am again asked for my password.
Just to clarify. The password I changed is for the iCloud Mail account, not for the main iCloud account (the one that requires your Apple ID).
I have the same problem:
On MacBook Pro, OS 10.6.8:
Trying to use my mail that is on my desktop. I keep getting the message:
"Enter password for account iCloud.
Enter the password for user "xx" on MobileMe IMAP server "imap.mail.me.com"
I have entered any and all related passwords, and it has rejected everything, even the passwords it used to accept before. I also have an iphone, and a month ago, the iphone asked me to input an Apple ID. At that time, on the iPhone, it rejected the normal one, and I had to create a new one. I don't know if that change is the reason why my email on my desktop is not working. I have a .mac and a .me account that I use. The fact that Apple pushed the .me account on me has made things more complex.
What can I do to solve the password problem??
Go to www.icloud.com and login. The username and password you use on the website is the one you need to enter on your Mac, so, can you login to the website?
I can login to the website with the new AppleID that I had to create last month. But my iphone is still using the old password (old appleID) for icloud email.
The desktop mail preferences box with Mail/Preferences/account information/account type/MobileMe/iCloud/ keeps popping up. No matter which password i put in, it deletes it after i save it, and i cannot get into the email. The box is: incoming server, imap.mail.me.com (This is the box that i correctly set up when apple went to icloud in June 2012.)
Also, I've tried to enter keychain, and it says it is restricted. I'm the only user, and it is unlocked, but i cannot save a new pw there.
Delete the old account on your phone, then enter the new one.
You must delete the old account prior to setting up the new one!
The mail is working on my phone. It's the desktop thats not working. And the phone is .mac not .me.
Do i still have to delete the account on phone and re install ?
Then sign out of iCloud on your Mac and sign back in with the correct ID, the same you use on the website and the phone.
The website, your Mac and your iPhone MUST all use the same login, it's not complicated, 1 person, 1 account.
Did you sign in using System Preferences>iCloud, or somewhere else?
i signed in to the Icloud website, and my email on the website works fine, (but cannot get it on desktop).
