Full Bluetooth functionality in Bootcamp (audio, A2DP, FTP, OBEX)

When runing Windows 7 in a native bootcamp partition you may have experienced issues when trying to pair android devices, audio sinks, headsets, etc. For earlier Mac models (2010 and earlier) the workaround consisted in using the broadcom drivers released by Acer or HP. However, the later 2011 models including MBA mid 2011, Macbook Pro and iMac will not allow you to install those drivers. Neither will Broadcom oficial updater recognize your bluetooth built in device.

The good news: after several weeks googling and installing/uninstalling pretty much every available driver on the internet I managed to have all my bluetooth devices wroking on Windows 7 x64 (bootcamp partition) on my MBA MID 2011.

You have at least 3 options

1.- Bluesoleil Stack: Altugh the chip is not offitially supported you can get it "brut force" recognized. This is described here:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3690433?answerId=17611577022#17611577022

2.- Toshiba Stack: The version 8.0 works pretty good specially for Audio devices the audio quality is pretty the best you will get. Same as above you need to force the recognition of your chip

The toshiba stack (30 days trial)

3.- Thank again to Acer (and not to Apple) we can get also a fully functional profile in a hardware we have paid a lot of money for. BUT WARNING! here you SHOULD NOT install the drivers!. Install only the utility suit instead. Pay carefull attention or you will get a blue screen and you will need to uninstall the drivers in safe mode or even have to do a clean Windows install. Uninstall all your paired BT devices (except for Magic Mouse and or keyboard you can leave them paired)

a.- Download the drivers

http://www.pcdrivershop.com/aspire_4830TG_Bluetooth_Atheros_7.4.0.96_W7x64_A.zip

b.- Unzip the file and explore the following folder

\Bluetooth(4.0)_Atheros_7.4.0.96_W7x64\Bluetooth_Suite_win7. Run Win764.exe or Win732 according to your OS.

Let the software install and restart.

c.- Pair your devices and enjoy!!!.

Options 1 and 2 (Bluesoleil and Toshiba Stack) are good options however they are paid-off softwares but what could be more important for many useres is that they completely override the Microsoft bluetooth stack and therefore Apple devices (like magic mouse) will loose some functionality I wasn't able to get the touch scrolling or the gestures working with those stacks. The 3th option however will not completeley override the Microsoft stack (used by Apple's drivers) and therefore Apple Magic mouse will work perfectly. The Atheros bluetooth suit will only add the requiered protocols and make them interact with the Microsoft stack. The disadvantage of the latest is that the audio quality is not even close as the one you are gonna get with the Toshiba stack and not say about configurability...

I hope I will save some of you some time and many headaches.

How do I install a Toshiba stack?

This worked on my Mackbook air mid - 2011Windows 7 x64. Be aware that you will loose the "magic scrolling" in case you are using a bluetooth magic mouse. Otherwise all bluetooth devices have been working as a chram with the Toshiba stack.

To make it work, follow this steps:

http://linkopia.blogspot.com/2009/05/a2dp-stereo-bluetooth-on-win-xp-boot.html

But instead of downloading the toshiba stack in the above link, download the x64 stack you will find in the link bellow:

http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/pages/disclaimer.php?dt=bts&download=3-64bi t

once you have "tricked" the stacks restart and run the Toshiba assistant

My setup is a 2012 Mac Mini with Broadcom BCM20702 Bluetooth chipset-running Windows 8.1 Home Premium. I ended up using the Broadcom Windows 8 64 bit drivers from the Acer Aspire 4830TG. It didn't work like it should have though.

It wouldn't even open until I extracted everything and then ran as admin in windows 7 compatibility mode. However, it kept insisting that no adapter was found and closed. After trying a few other things that didn't work, I found the solution by trial and error.

  1. In file manager: Under the extracted archive-navigate to: ../Win64/Inst.exe
  2. This installer opens and installs properly
  3. Reboot
  4. Re-pair phone (Galaxy S4 M919 in my case)
  5. Device now automatically configures-all Bluetooth services are now supported

Admittedly, many things in OS X no longer "just work"-but figuring this one out was a major pain. Unfortunately, I have to run Windows 7 or 8 on this machine for school purposes (MS Access, Cisco software, Windows configuration, a version of Outlook that actually works with Google sync, etc.). Would have been far easier in OS X, but now, between MightyText and using my Mac Mini as audio/in out for my GS4-I barely have to touch my phone anymore when I'm working on my Mac.

THANKS FOR EVERYBODY!!!! Amazing Marcelo and AbduApple!!!

I HAVE LOST SO MANY TIME LOOKING FOR THIS STUPID DRIVER AND APPLE COULD NOT HELP AT ALL!

On my MacBook Pro 17” with Windows 7 32bit – I had only to download the:

Updated Bluetooth® for Windows® software at

http://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/update.php

this small software will do all to you, find, download and install like a miracle.

On my MacBook Pro 13” with Windows 7 64bit wasn’t that easy and thanks for all of you now it is working!!! I’m listening for my marvelous music Antonio Vivaldi - Largo (Winter - The Seasons) while working!

Just download the above driver AbduApple posted:

Bluetooth_Atheros_7.4.0.96_W7x64_A.zip

After unzipping I only had to run the Bluetooth_Suite_win7.EXE file, reboot the computer and my SoundLink Mini was installed correctly!

P.S I had my headphone plugin on the computer and lost 2 minutes to understand that the Bose wasn’t playing until I didn’t unplug the headphone from the computer!!!

Option #3 works on Late 2013 Retina MBP 13".

I dislike downloading system software and drivers from random websites, so I recommend grabbing the latest drivers from the Acer website:

http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers

- "Search by Product Model": Aspire 4830TG

BluetoothAtherosBluetooth Driver (4.0)7.4.0.96177.5 MB2011/10/31Download

- Extract the downloaded zip file.

- Also extract the file named Bluetooth_Suite_win7.EXE using 7-zip

- Double click on win732.exe (for 32-bit Windows 7) or win764.exe (for 64-bit Windows 7)

Note: Do _not_ download the Broadcom Bluetooth driver from the Acer website. While that may provide similar capabilities, it's not tested (any brave souls out there?)

I downloaded the a.m. Atheros for my MacBook 13 (2013) with Win7 professional and followed clauand instructions - no problems!. Extracting, connecting, sound ... perfect!!

But if I work it with an exter JBL "OnTour" speaker to have the TV-Sound comming from WinTV, it is either delayed or interrupted / studdering.

Anybody has similar experiences?

Hi,

So I have a mid 2014 macbook pro 15 inch (i7 2.5GHz, 16GB RAM).

I have tried all the suggestions above and have gotten nowhere fast over past 3 months with this issue except for having to re-install from scratch twice....which I don't ever want to have to do again.

Anybody got same model as me and got BT (specifically A2DP), working....?

Or am I still wasting my time and a £5 BT dongle is way to go.....?

Any input appreciated.

cheers

I have a Late 2013 15" rMBP (the same model as you with different CPUs), and I have full BT functionality in OSX and Windows, including A2DP. Trying non-BC drivers causes more problems than it resolved. I have a Motorola S9 headset/headphone working and fully functional using BC drivers. I disallow any Windows driver updates on my Mac, only Security Updates are manually selected and applied.
