Q: Full Bluetooth functionality in Bootcamp (audio, A2DP, FTP, OBEX)

When runing Windows 7 in a native bootcamp partition you may have experienced issues when trying to pair android devices, audio sinks, headsets, etc. For earlier Mac models (2010 and earlier) the workaround consisted in using the broadcom drivers released by Acer or HP. However, the later 2011 models including MBA mid 2011, Macbook Pro and iMac will not allow you to install those drivers. Neither will Broadcom oficial updater recognize your bluetooth built in device.

The good news: after several weeks googling and installing/uninstalling pretty much every available driver on the internet I managed to have all my bluetooth devices wroking on Windows 7 x64 (bootcamp partition) on my MBA MID 2011.

 

You have at least 3 options

 

     1.- Bluesoleil Stack: Altugh the chip is not offitially supported you can get it "brut force" recognized. This is described here:

     2.- Toshiba Stack: The version 8.0 works pretty good specially for Audio devices the audio quality is pretty the best you will get. Same as above you need to force the recognition of your chip

     3.- Thank again to Acer (and not to Apple) we can get also a fully functional profile in a hardware we have paid a lot of money for. BUT WARNING! here you SHOULD NOT install the drivers!. Install only the utility suit instead. Pay carefull attention or you will get a blue screen and you will need to uninstall the drivers in safe mode or even have to do a clean Windows install. Uninstall all your paired BT devices (except for Magic Mouse and or keyboard you can leave them paired)

 

          a.- Download the drivers

 

               http://www.pcdrivershop.com/aspire_4830TG_Bluetooth_Atheros_7.4.0.96_W7x64_A.zip

 

          b.- Unzip the file and explore the following folder

 

              \Bluetooth(4.0)_Atheros_7.4.0.96_W7x64\Bluetooth_Suite_win7.  Run Win764.exe or Win732 according to your OS.

               Let the software install and restart.

 

          c.- Pair your devices and enjoy!!!.

 

Options 1 and 2 (Bluesoleil and Toshiba Stack) are good options however they are paid-off softwares but what could be more important for many useres is that they completely override the Microsoft bluetooth stack and therefore Apple devices (like magic mouse) will loose some functionality I wasn't able to get the touch scrolling or the gestures working with those stacks. The 3th option however will not completeley override the Microsoft stack (used by Apple's drivers) and therefore Apple Magic mouse will work perfectly. The Atheros bluetooth suit will only add the requiered protocols and make them interact with the Microsoft stack. The disadvantage of the latest is that the audio quality is not even close as the one you are gonna get with the Toshiba stack and not say about configurability...

 

I hope I will save some of you some time and many headaches.

How do I install a Toshiba stack?

 

This worked on my Mackbook air mid - 2011Windows 7 x64. Be aware that you will loose the "magic scrolling" in case you are using a bluetooth magic mouse. Otherwise all bluetooth devices have been working as a chram with the Toshiba stack.

 

To make it work, follow this steps:

    Thanks for the post James.
    I've tried exactly the same but under Windows 7 and it doesn't do anything...

    Mac Mini 2012 -> downloaded the 4830TG W7 drivers for the Broadcom chipset (tried both regular Bluetooth and 4.0) -> Installation went like it should -> Bluetooth device still has a yellow exclamation mark next to it
    Has anyone succeeded in installing full Bluetooth functionality on a Mac Mini 2012 and Windows 7?

    Ah OK, I understand now that you need to install this alongside the driver Apple supplies. That seems to work at first except it doesn't...
    I can pair my headphones, it installs the drivers and all looks OK. In the Headphone properties I've checked the Headphone service and Audio Sink service but when I go to my sound settings, the Bluetooth Headphone stays greyed out (trying to connect won't work either.).
    When I turn the headphone off and then on again it won't pair anymore at all.

    For me with a rMBP 13, late 2013, option 3 from the opening post has not worked under Windows 7 x64. iFixit.com mentions after a teardown that it contains an Airport/Bluetooth Board with model number BCM94360CS (https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Parts/MacBook-Pro-13-Inch-and-15-Inch-Retina-Late-2 013-Mid-2014-Airport-Bluetooth-Board/IF1…)

     

    It is very diappointing that even the latest Bootcamp Drivers, version 5.1.5640, do not allow for such basic Bluetooth functionality as adding a BT headset in Windows 7 x64. Upgrading to Win 8 is not desirable because I don't want the hassle of installing and configuring everything again, and I don't believe that upgrading an existing installation leads to a stable system. I always considered Apple great hardware to run Windows on, but this issue makes me look to the likes of Lenovo Thinkpads for a successor.

     

    Has anyone found a working solution for Bluetooth on a late 2013 / mid 2014 MacBook Pro (13" or 15", these models share the same BT Board)?

    I tried the 3rd solution (acer drivers) on my mid 2014 13" Macbook Pro and it works well. Finally i can pair my android phone.

    Bought a brand new Microsoft Script Touch mouse to connect to my Macbook Pro running BootCamp 5.1 (Windows 7 Ultimate)

    It worked well for a 2 weeks and then it just stopped working. Unable to pair the device with the notebook.

    A quick check to see if the mouse runs on the MacOS and yes it works.

    Back to Windows 7 Ultimate and I see 3 items out of sync in the Device Manager (Bluetooth Peripheral Device x3).

    Downloaded Broadcomm's BT device detection software to run but it just hangs 1/4 of the way.

    Loaded up MacOS and disabled the bluetooth function. Restarted in Windows 7 and paired the Microsoft Script Touch mouse without a blink.

    It worked!

    Not sure if anyone has just tried this before but I'm just posting it here hopefully it will help some of you. I have tried the 3rd method posted by OP and it didn't seems to work. What I did at the end was simply

    1. Device Manager

    2. Locate the unidentified Bluetooth hardware

    3. Right click > Update driver software

    4. Select browse my computer for driver software

    5. Select let me pick from a list of device drivers

    6. From here, I chose Broadcom > Bluetooth Module

    7. Click next and ignore the warning

    8. And all of the Bluetooth devices are connecting perfectly now!

     

    Works on a Late 2012 iMac running Windows 10.

    Hi there.

     

    My story. MBA 13 Early 2014, win7. Firstly, I tried to set up bootcamp downloaded via BootCamp assistant in OSX 10.10. It has bluetooth driver v.6.0.xxx. The driver was set up, but win told that its digital signature is invalid and I can't use it. Ok, so I have downloaded the latest available bootcamp from apple site. It has 5.0.4.xxx version of driver that works without yellow triangles! Then I have installed Suite from the third link. Aaaand... my android phone and bluetooth audio system are connected! But that wasn't for long. Suddenly audio system disconnected, and it was hard to connect again, 1 time from 5. So I cleared all drivers and suits and set up them again. And win tells me that my audio system has invalid signature and couldn't be connected! My second bluetooth speaker connects to mac well, but when I push play button, it plays only 50% of time (music - silence - music - silence). But my android phone connects perfectly.

     

    What cuold be a solution?

    Finally, Toshiba 10.0.xx drivers works. But I had to add three lines to .inf file instead of two as was described (two standard sections).

    But there is one bug: it connects properly after rebooting, but it plays silence after waking up, so I have to shut down every time.

    Hi everyone,

     

    I want to share my story how I fixed the bluetooth issues.

    I have a Macbook Pro Retina 15 mid 2014. The default bluetooth drivers worked fine but I wanted to use my laptop as a handsfree device with my HTC One. So here are the steps I made in order to fix that.

     

    Preparation: Make sure you have BootCamp5.1.5640 Bluetooth drivers installed (or the default drivers for you model).

     

    1. Go to http://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/drivers

    2. Search by product model: 4830TG

    3. In the drivers list, download Atheros Bluetooth drivers for your OS. I am using Windows 8.1 so here is the direct link.

    4. Extract the contents of the archive.

    5. For me, the install file Bluetooth_Suite.exe didn't work, so I opened this file with 7z and extracted its contents.

    6. Then I ran win7x64.exe, from the extracted files, and followed the installation steps.

    7. After the installation finished I could pair my phone and see the handsfree connect option.

    For some reason the SMS sending feature doesn't work, but maybe you will have different results on your device.
