wireless keyboard says connected then connection lost. All I did was replace the batteries when the old ones died. Now I have to hold the power button just to type. Seems like a hardware problem not preferences. Any clues?

Try resetting the PRAM and SMC.
Then delete a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart.

Thanks for responding Barry. I did the reset, couldn't find any such .plist file in library/ preferences. Usually I do a software update and restart if I have problems. No luck so far. At the moment I have the power button held down with masking tape so I can type!
The preference file is located in Macintosh HD>library>preferences.

No dice. deleted the plist, restarted, and as soon as the masking tape comes off, the keyboard is gone. I read that some people are putting pieces of tin foil in the battery compartment to ensure a solid connection!!! What's up with that? Did Apple have a recall?

I have read the tinfoil thing. I have not had the problem, but some have made that a workaround.

Thanks for your efforts Barry, I appreciate it. I think I'll switch to a wired keyboard. All the bluetooth stuff seems to devour batteries. I have a huge bag of AA's that I've been meaning to recycle 🙂
