I'm using FCPX and imported a couple of files that were output with the Avid Meridien codec. When I try to use the files in FCPX, I can hear the audio, but I get no video. How do I get FCPX to see the codecs?

You can't. Does the file open the QT player with video? Then it should appear in Compressor and you will have to convert it there.

You can get Compressor from the App Store. You might also try MPEG Streamclip, which is free. You can convert the media to QuickTime using the ProRes codec.
