Editing Album Info to 'Part of a compilation' En-Masse!

Hi all,

this is hopefully a simple one. In Mac OS X, iTunes 10, how do you select and activate the 'Part of a compilation' tag for entire albums? The setting only seems to appear when I 'Get Info' on a single track, not on multiple tracks. I must be missing something, but what??

thanks!

I'm not in front of my Mac right now unfortunately. But 'Get Info' does not reveal the Compilation option for multiple track selections, only individual track selections. Are you saying that you have to first use an additional modifier key whilst selecting Cmd + i in order to Get Info on multiple tracks? Will this finally reveal the 'Part of a compilation' tag option? If so, why did Apple make it so obscure and complicated?

OK, I think you're right. I'll confirm when I get home from work, but I think I was looking in the wrong place before. When you Get Info on an individual track the 'Part of a compilation' flag is ticked in the same page as Artist Name, Track Name, Album, Genre, etc. For multiple-track selection it looks like this function appears in the Options tab instead, as you've suggested. A strange inconsistency, but at least I know where to find it now! Thanks for your help, I can't wait to try it 🙂

Thanks both, I can confirm you are both correct about setting the function in the Options tab. Brilliant.

I am trying to get iTunes to organise my media so that it only creates one folder for each compilation album and puts all the individual tracks in there. Currently it has created many many folders, for each individual artist, and put just one mp3 in each. Now that I've set the flags for these albums as 'compilations' will iTunes delete these folders and re-organise my music library to create a one album one folder kind of arrangement? Or will the current layout remain? I want to eventually consolidate the library and have it neatly backed up to an external drive. Thanks again.
