Q: Canon G12

Hello,

Does anyone knows how to install a Canon G12 as a webcam in a MacBook with OSX 10.5.8?

Thanks

I don't have a G12, but the user guide manual that came with your G12 will tell you if it has a webcam output capability.  In my brief review of the manual, I did not see webcam output listed as one of its features.  If you cannot find whether your G12 has a webcam feature, the retailer who sold you the camera or the Canon phone help line should be able to help.

If the G12 has not webcam output capability, consider these alternatives:

    • If the G12 has no webcam setting, you can still connect its AV output to the input of a AD converter like the Canopus® DV ADVC110 and then connect the ADVC110's Firewire output to your Mac for use with many apps that can accept external cameras.  Given the cost of the converter compared to external webcams, this option would make sense only if you already have an AD converter.

    • If you do not have an AD converter that is compatible with your system but you need an external webcam, consider a webcam like one of those identified here.  Check the system requirements for compatibility with both your system and the software that you will use to operate the camera before you buy.
