Is there a way to dial a contact by just typing its name in the keypad....as one can do in all the blackberry and android dialers...it is quite a job first to find the contact and then dial..

This is a major gap in basic functionality of the phone. Can't get my head around it. Get he basics right in the next update to iOS please!

I also find this a bit annoying because many of the times i am dialing a number which i don't want to save as a contact (like contacting a courier vendor for tracking my package or something like that).

If i have dialed a number(which is not saved in my contacts) recently i would prefer to see the same in a suggestion list instead of going to the recent dial list and searching there by scrolling through the list

At the least a search option could be provided in the recent dialed list.

I meant "finally" after reading duplicated response after duplicated response that just said, go back to Blackberry then, use the contacts page, use Siri, go back to Blackberry then, use the contacts page, use Siri and so on ad infinitum, I "finally" got to a helpful answer. Not "finally" after 15 months.

I totally agree. SmartDial is a standard in most Android phones, BlackBerries and even 3 years old Symbain-based Nokia phones...I just don't get it why it is not yet done in iPhone?! 5 yeras on the martket and nothing like that.... I was really disappointed when started using my iPhone 5 which doesn't have this feature...

Sometimes I have a feeling that Apple treats its users as idiots and do not implement some features in purpose. If some users are not so advanced and would be confused to see contact names when dialing a number - I'd solve this as an option that I may enable in Settings.

I'd really love to see this feature in my iPhone. . It's sooooo must-have in a modern phone and so robust... Favourites is not a real solution. THere is a 3rd party app - iCaller, but it anyway uses native iPhone dialer...

Dude, please read the first post to get the answer why NOT - it's time consuming (many clicks here and there) and not user friendly (small search field, small on-screen keyboard) especially when doing this on the move...

Let's face the truth - iPhone is not really a phone, but rather a gadget with a Phone feature. It lacks some basic things that are implemented in various, real phones, but I guess you're not really open for discussion about that.

BTW - this is a forum for iPhone users and not Apple employees 😝 Before I bought my iPhone I just heard about Apple slaves, but thought this is just a theory of jealous Android users, but it seems to be truth
