Disabling IPv6 in OS X Lion

For the WiFi use terminal and write:

networksetup -setv6off wi-fi

For the ethernet connection:

networksetup -setv6off Ethernet

I just tryed the command networksetup -setv6off Ethernet

on a Lion Mac and it did not work. It did not work. I also tryed it with Ethernet 1 as that is what my network setting is named. Is there another way to Disable ipv6 in Lion?

networksetup -listallnetworkservices

will give you a list of the exact names that must be used with the command.

Thanks to "Retired Engineer" for providing a clue, the correct command for the WiFi is

networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi

It's important to get the capitalization correct, I suspect.

For Ethernet on Macbook Air using the USB Ethernet dongle, it's:

networksetup -setv6off USB Ethernet

For Ethernet on my Macbook I had to put quotes around USB Ethernet. For example:

networksetup -setv6off 'USB Ethernet'

Under 10.10.3 I also needed the quotes:

networksetup -setv6off 'Ethernet 1'

Mac Pro, so it has 2 Ethernets so you of course have to name which one.

So:

networksetup -setv6off 'Ethernet 2'

For the other.
