Imac 20" PPC at Costco!

I am heading there (Poway/San Diego, CA) this evening to get some stuff and will look to see if our local store is carrying it. I bought a Mac Portable 100 at Costco way back when, yeah I have been at this that long. 🙂

I was over at the Monterey peninsula Costco this morning, and they had that 20" iSight there in factory sealed boxes - included in the price is 3 years AppleCare. Looks like Apple's getting serious about clearing them out.

The Costco in San Diego at Carmel Mountain had about 12-16 of them last night. I tipped off a friend who was looking for a Mac. A good deal, especially since it includes the 3 year AppleCare.

I couldn't justify buying one myself, but I did pick up a 300 GB Maxtor external drive so I could do mirror back-ups of my system

The demo had iLife 05. Since these are being sold after iLife 06 was released and Apple ad says they should have iLife 06 will Apple upgrade it for free? Well maybe free after their $10 media charge.

If not I'd put my non-family pack iLife 06 on it license agreement or not. It should have come with it in the first place.

Just saw the Imac 20" PPC Isight at Costco for
$1495...The last time I saw an Imac at costco it was
the G3 when they dumped...The store was selling them
very quickly too!

No. The 20" G5 iMacs were discontinued before iLife '06 came out.

Do the right thing and call Apple and see what they will do. The "Up to Date" program runs through March 31, so they should send you the media for $9.95.

I thought this was a great deal, but is it really worth that much more to get the intel? Am I going to regret getting the PowerPc 2 years from now?

3 Year Apple Care!! Great deal especially if you are like me and using it at home (no need for super speed)!

The PPC Macs will be supported for many years and if you have no need for the pro-level apps, then you will likely get years of use out of a PPC Mac.

Now where on Earth did I get that from? For some reason I thought that we were talking about an older model G5 that was discontinued.

it's techincally discontinued because it's no longer being built, they are just selling the left overs.

As I wrote above it is NOT discontinued, in any sense of the word.
The 20 inch is still being manufactured and sold by Apple.

The 17 inch has been discontinued as of 3 February and the stock on hand is being sold off.

I bought the iMac G5 iSight the first week it came out. I think I have been done wrong and I will never buy anything from Apple again. I tell everyone I know what has happened to me. You can now bar me from your discussions for I shall never return. I will, however, tell everyone I meet what has been done to me. My first Apple was an Apple 2C and my last was the iMac G5 iSight.
