i just got an imac g3 1998 from ebay and even if its off and unplugged you can smell this weird smell out of the vent but i cant tell if its the computer or the foam it was packed in is there any thing that can come out though the air and cause bodily harm in there or will it not hurt me
every thing else appers normal with the computer though

It could be that there's an electrical fault and what you smell may be that. Turn the computer off for a day or two and see if the smell goes away.
I got it off ebay but it was like that right out of the box so its not electrical kinda smells like air in a can so i ask the seller if he cleaned it with that
Do that, but if you can, put it outside or in a garage, just make sir there are no freezing temps.

oh i am but its in a big room in my house i turn it an about 5 to 10 mins a day so the fan can run to air it out
the keyboard and mouse smell the same so im thinking it is cleaner

Did they actually stupidly spray the poyurethane inside the Mac? I hope not! If it's only on the outside, it should dissipate, but ask them what can be done to minimize the odor.
No they did Not put any inside the mac

I think it also has a bad flyback transformer because somethimes the screen flickers and there is a sqeaking snap
is it safe to use doing this or if the transformer is bad or going bad?
I sounds as if you have more problems than just the Dock, if you are technically inclined, you can try to relace the transformer, or, if your think it's worth it, you can take it in or contact the vendor and return it - hopefully you paid with PayPal or a credit card.
If he issues me a calltag for shipping i will ship it back and get a differnt newer on because i herd the 98's had issues
