can i install snow leopard on imac 2012?

Just bought a new imac this week and I feel like I've gone back to the stone age. I thought new computers and technology were suppose to move you forward. None of my old (powerpc) apps work and it seems I just missed the transition period where I could still be using them on my intel imac. All these websites keep telling me that I should be able to load snow leopard but this imac won't load it. The Mac OSX Utilities pane won't start up at all so I can't even fix the Lion software either. I love macs and have been a fan for years but this is the first time I've ever regretted buying a new mac. Is there a solution to my problem or should I just ship this oversized IPAD back to Apple? Please help!!

Sorry to hear you are so dismayed with your new iMac.

Contrary to what you've read, you can't install an older version of the Mac OS X that came pre installed your new Mac.

Read here > Don't install a version of Mac OS X earlier than what came with your Mac

The Mac OSX Utilities pane won't start up at all so I can't even fix the Lion software either.

In order repair the startup disk or reinstall the Mac OS X use Lion Recovery by holding down Command + R on your keyboard at startup. (not Disk Utility located in /Applications/Utilities).

I called Apple Care and had to purchase a copy for snow leopard for $30. I asked them 3 times if it would work on this imac and they all said yes. (I'll believe it when I see it.) They said to call them when the disk arrives by mail and they will step me through loading the older software. If the older software doesn't make my new imac useful to me, it's going back!
