iTunes cannot sync mail

When I try to sync mail in iTunes the checkbox is not clickable and no mail accounts are shown.

Tried:

plugging in a different iphone (update OK)

updating software

reinstalling software

creating a new account

(the problem resides on the mac)

deleting caches

Deleting mail accounts, caches and preferences

deleting iTunes library, caches and preferences

Nothing! Just the same error.

Can anyone help me?

iTunes does not support syncing mail. You can sync Apps, Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, Books, and Photos, but not Mail.

However, you can setup an iCloud account to sync mail between your Mac and your iPhone.

Instructions here > Apple - iCloud - Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices

iCloud requires iOS 5 on iPhone 3GS or later.

Wow! I finally found a solution for this issue, it worked on three computers! Correct me if I make grammar mistakes.

The Problem:

iTunes won't sync mail in 10.7.3

The Cause:

unknown - bug

The Solution:

Looks like it's an upgrade issue, if I do it in a 10.7 clean environment it all works. So it's a 10.7.3 bug.

If a new installation is made, upgrades are done and mailboxes are created / migrated nothing will work.

If the mailboxes are imported with a 10.7 clean installation and AFTER THAT the upgrade to 10.7.3 is made ALL WORKS!!

That makes sense in many cases, all CLEAN configurations of mail in 10.7.3 fail.

So, it should work:

  • Install 10.7
  • Migrate Data
  • Open Mail and eventually migrate
  • Sync mail with iTunes
  • Restart
  • Upgrade to 10.7.3
  • Check, worked for me!!

Tested making a new account, not yet by migrating with migration assistant.

BTW, I called AppleCare for support and I am terribly dissatisfied by their service. I still had my free 90 days call for my new computer and they required me to BUY AN APPLECARE FOR MY IPHONE!! It's a 4S! No, thank you!

49 minutes of call, THREE operators, aaaand... registrations of course, how much I hate registrations! "could you please tell me the serial?" (for six times). Apple, you suck in helpdesk. 😠

I made a clean install of 10.7 and confirm that everything works. One, has to upgrade iTunes, since the version shipping with 10.7 is not compatible with Apple devices running the latest version of iOS, yet this is not a big problem, and it also confirms that this whole thing is not an iTunes issue.

However, after upgrading to 10.7.3, despite the fact that all mail accounts that have already been created unded 10.7 still appear and still sync... any NEW accounts (including the iCloud account), do NOT appear.

So, i can not agree that we have a solution (if one would call the hours lost in downgrading, a solution).

Anyone reading and having access to Express Lane (not available in my country) is kindly requested to annoy Apple as much as possible, for this is something that has to be resolved.

Working after update.....

After purchasing a new iPad (3) the other day, I also had the problem of new accounts not showing in iTunes.

Yesterday I ended up adding the accounts manually into the iPad and iPhone - worked I suppose....

This morning updated iTunes to latest version (10.6.1) and it solved the problem - all accounts are now visible in iTunes...

Just curious - on the 'info' tab under the iPad or any other device - where it lists the calendars, contacts and email accounts - by default under iCloud, they are not ticked. Taking email accounts for example - does no tick, mean they are all by default synched?

thx that did the trick 🙂

1) Installing 10.7 over 10.7.3 (it is alwaays good to keep a copy 😉 )

2) in 10.7 only my 10.7.3. iCloud email account gave trouble, I guess because 10.7 is MobileMe and not iCloud

3) So I deleted it my iCloud email account in 10.7, updated iTunes only and voila. the mail accounts were back in the iTunes pane.

4) Then I added my iCloud email account and a bit later it also popped up in my iTunes pane.

BUT, this must be a serious bug as out of our 4 Mac, 3 suffice of this. 😮
