I have a 2011 macbook pro and want to use my TV as a monitor, what cable/adapter do I need for both video and audio?
I am in Japan so need to be able to order it online.

If your TV has an HDMI input, you need a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor and then a plain HDMI cable. The MBP will export video and audio over HDMI.
If your TV only has composite video, or VGA, you will need an adaptor for one of those inputs, and you will also need to send your audio over a separate cable from your headphone socket,

from Amazon....will this one work? I read the HDMI adapter alone will only transmit video and not audio but that this one with the USB should take care of the audio.

No, as I said, your 2011 MBP will transmit both audio and video over HDMI. That cable would be useful for older models where this was not the case.
