Drag the folder's icon onto the flash drive's icon and drop it there.
The problem is the flash drive icon doesn't appear. Where should it appear and what does it look like?
I have done this lots of times on PCs, but never on my Mac.
Open Finder preferences by using the menu item "Finder > Preferences" (make sure you are in the finder)
Then make sure the "External disks" is checked in for the Sidebar:
Also make sure in the General tab of Finder Preferences that the "External disks" is checked :
This should now show the extenal devices when you connect them
Hi Wayne,
I did all that and no icon appears.
Does the flash drive appear in Disk Utility's left sidebar? If not, and if it doesn't appear in the Finder windows' sidebars or on your desktop after you did as Wayne suggested above, then the flash drive is defective. If the flash drive does appear in Disk Utility, select it and click the Mount button in the DU toolbar. Then it should appear on your desktop. If it doesn't, try to reformat it in Disk Utility.
Please forgive this queston...
Have you plugged in the flash drive to:
A) another port on the same machine?
B) another machine?
also have you tried a different flash drive?
To see if the device is present (as far as the OS is concerned) let's also look at the Computer folder by using the Finder menu item "Go > Computer":
On my MacBookPro I get:
Aha! It wasn't an insulting question. I tried another flash drive and it worked!!!
Thank you SO MUCH!
