Q: Cursor jumping erratically and macbook has a mind of its own...

Not only does my cursor go uncontrollably crazy and start flying around my screen, things will start opening on my desktop, windows will change size and switch back and forth, icons will be moved, etc. This happens so quickly that it is almost impossible for me to regain control of things, and I often have to simply shut my computer off. Does anyone have so insight, solutions, or suggestions?

I also had the same problem, i discovered it was my own fault as i had previously wiped my macbook pro with a wet wipe. The oil's from the wipe had caused this problem and the cursor was jumping around and opening programes etc. If you have had this problem and have previously done the same, wet a peice of kitchen towl with a little water and wipe your pad then right away dry it with another peice of towel this worked a treat for me. Please do not wet your mac to much and only do this if you have previoulsy cleaned your mac this way,

I had the same scary problem with a cursor that had a mind of it's own, jumping all over the desktop or not moving at all, multiple icons and programs opening as the cursor flew by them.

I am so glad that I read "TheBrutalArts" solution. I remember that I had washed the trackpad and my wife also did the same, with a Clorox wipe, to try to stop a cold virus from spreading all over our house, hours prior to this happening, and continuing the next day.

A moist paper towel followed by a quick dry paper towel and the cursor is back to its'  happy self!

Check if the MBP battery has swollen.  It resides underneath the track pad and may be the source of the problem.  It does not happen often, but it is not unusual.

    Ciao.
