Mar 4, 2012 8:05 AM in response to AnnieDNby torndownunit,I was actually able to open a few genres fairly easily yesterday. I immediately added any stations I use from them to a playlist while I could.

Mar 4, 2012 9:51 AM in response to torndownunitby jhphotog,I am having the same problem on my brand new iMac with Lion and iTunes 10.5.3. No stations work. However my old PPC G5 machine next to it brings up any station instantly and runs without a glitch. This setup will do till Apple fixes it I guess.

Mar 4, 2012 10:02 AM in response to jhphotogby bru2,I run iTunes for Windows but this thread seems a bit more comprehensive (and civil) then the one over there so I thought I would post here.
I discovered this problem roughly 10 days ago. Luckily there are forums like this and I was quickly able to see I was not alone. In the past I may have tried to resolve the problem on my own by doing things I thought might help. But through experience I learned that if a problem is not unique to my system any fixes I try may do more harm than good.
Today it seems I can open some genres, but the next time they may give the error message. Which is basically the same as how it was 10 days ago.
I am disappointed that Apple has not resolved this yet. Apparently it is not an easy fix. So I will wait it out. Not much other choice unless I move to a different program. As an AAPL shareholder I hope not too many others do this. But I imagine some will.

Mar 4, 2012 10:29 AM in response to bru2by music_is_her_name,...also an AAPL shareholder....
I run a mac mini and iTunes as an integral part of my home entertainment system (....see Simon Templar's posts in this thread for his view of the problem, analysis and recommendations...).
I am still getting intermittent errors when I refresh a genre but notice that once I am able to refresh, a 'stream count' comes up for each genre as it refreshes.
I know Apple take their software seriously but as they move into a place on the home entertainment 'critical path' (yes there is some irony in that...) Apple development needs to balance stability and reliability versus 'nice to haves': e.g., who cares how many streams exist in a particular genre?
Reliability and stability are key.
I will follow up w/ Apple Monday or Tuesday to see how they are doing with my Express Lane case.

Mar 4, 2012 10:31 AM in response to Danger Cellby comie04,Ok so the solution on page 2 didn't work for me when trying to get the pls's for the top 40 / pop genre, but worked on every other genre.
I found this website http://cybernetnews.com/cybernotes-add-shoutcast-radio-streams-to-itunes/
Just follow the directions and you should be able to add any radio station to itunes. There's a search engine if you can't find the particular station your looking for.
Also came across some free software & software for around like $30 that you can actually record your favorite station. The free software you can record 2 stations at a time and the other software is unlimited. I haven't tried any of the software, just seemed interesting.
I hope apple fixes the problem asap & hope this message helps

Mar 4, 2012 11:49 AM in response to Danger Cellby Gregory USA,TEMP workaround for the iTunes 10 Radio Stations that are 'unaccessable'
1) Go to: www.shoutcast.com
2) Choose 'Radio Genre'
3) Right click on 'Station'
4) Choose 'Save Target As'
5) Rename 'tunein-station' to (your choice), save to desktop
6) Click Renamed PLS file on desktop to open in iTunes
Now saved in 'Internet Songs' under Playlists
Repeat for multiple stations
Bingo!

Mar 4, 2012 12:00 PM in response to Gregory USAby jimmy boyfromchesapeake,Hi Greg,
I stopped using Shoutcast for my Escient and computer a while back in favor or the better structure provided by iTunes Radio. I don't wish to go back. Just waiting for Apple to correct the problem.

Mar 4, 2012 12:02 PM in response to Danger Cellby comie04,ok gregory just posted the same thing an hour ago
-
Mar 4, 2012 12:25 PM in response to Danger Cellby Gregory USA,jimmy, I stated this as a 'TEMP' workaround for accessing stations for iTunes not referring to any uses for other devices
comie04, yes but you didn't explain how to do it. You just stated go to another site and 'follow the directions'
We come here for support, not to go elsewhere and figure it our for ourselves.

Reliability and stability are key.
But, there is something which is even MORE important than that. And that is both the willingness and the ability to rapidly analyze and respond to problem areas such as this which typically arise from time to time.
This is crucial if one wants to play with the big boys in an industry such as this. Because nobody is going to want to build or purchase gear based on Apple technology if problems such as these aren't going to be dealt with swiftly. Why? Because the REAL players eat this sort of thing for lunch. There is no space or place in this field for dilettantes.
One can be laissez-faire about such things when we are pumping out iPods for the kids, but when you want to try to foist that same technology into a serious and growing industry such as High-End Audio and Home Entertainment...then it's time to spit out the bubble gum and behave as though you deserve to be there.
In this case, as is being demonstrated by the (almost lack of a) response we are receiving, Apple is giving the appearance of either apathy....or incompetence. This engenders neither reliability nor stability. It screams a lack of the former and implies the absence of the latter.
I am also an Apple shareholder. Have been since the IPO. I find it quite troubling that Apple would code both iTunes and Remote in such a way as they have. Even the local village idiot could have looked at this arrangement and predicted we would wind up where we are today.
To say all of this is inexcuseable is being diplomatic at best. Personally.....I can think of more accurate adjectives.

Agree 100%.
I logged in to see the status of my Express Lane Case # 295081089 and found that they have 'closed' it.
Part of my background involces global, real-time, double-fault-tolerant trading and risk systems...where 10 seconds of outage is a long time.
I agree with your point on the requirements of the High-End Audio and Home Entertainment audience/market and plan to speak with Apple on a daily basis regarding this event.
In the olden days you could fax Steve Jobs directly at his office. I only did it once but I did get a response.
...and I am on the phone with them right now....
Best,

Sigh!
Pretty much says it all, now doesn't it?
