Mar 5, 2012 11:09 AM in response to music_is_her_nameby MalcolmR,CORRECT: Apple policy is to NOT engage with the user forums (as told to me this AM by a senior support tech. in relation to this radio tuning issue).

Mar 5, 2012 4:10 PM in response to Danger Cellby music_is_her_name,I spent a fair amount of time (couple of hours) on the phone today with Apple support and Apple corporate headquarters.
With respect to this issue: at least 2 senior support analysts have reported this problem as a 'high priority' problem to Apple engineering. Once they report the problem to engineering, they wait until engineering analyzes the issue and: a) fixes it with a software patch or release, or b) issues a statement or report. During this analysis time it is apparently corporate policy NOT to comment. Once engineering figures out what's going on it is apparently their decision on what information/fixes/etc. they release.
In my opinion, sometimes a statement acknowledging that a problem exists/may-exist/has-been-brought-to-our-attention goes a long way towards informing a large user community and keeping people happier while bugs are being sorted out.
There are two ways to communicate feedback to Apple regarding this issue and the process in general:
1. Submit feedback at

First Stream I tried gave the same old error message. So it's not working for me.

Mar 5, 2012 4:17 PM in response to Danger Cellby music_is_her_name,cont....
1. Submit feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/
2. If you feel strongly enough [and if the situation warrants it] call corporate headquarters and they will give you a fax number direct to Tim Cook.
Anyway this has been a learning experience for me.
I have the name and phone contact info for 2 Senior Support Analysts who I will check with daily to see what progress is being made on this specific bug/problem/issue. I expect it will tak engineering a couple of days to sort it out; although I cannot believe I was the forst one to open a case on this issue.
...and Apple is aware that approx. 10,000 people have looked at the user forums regarding this problem.
Best.

Mar 5, 2012 4:22 PM in response to music_is_her_nameby MalcolmR,Music_is_her_name (Southern Cross?): I agree absolutely on your point about a simple statement keeping the user base alerted. I raised the identical point this morning with the senior analyst I spoke to (John). While he sort of agreed, he mainly defended Apple's mode.
Long gone are the halcyon early days of the Mac, say 1984-85, when a call would connect you to the likes of Chris Espinosa or Guy Kawasaki!

Mar 5, 2012 4:26 PM in response to music_is_her_nameby bru2,AAPL was down 2.2% today. Quite a bit more than the market itself. So not only don't I have my iTunes radio, my AAPL stock is losing value .

Mar 6, 2012 5:21 AM in response to bru2by jimmy boyfromchesapeake,I am still experiencing an inability to consistently be able to open a genre. Some will open after multiple clicks. Maybe all, but I get tired of clicking. I have a life. I wind up listening to the music I can access and not always the music I want to access and hear. It's an involuntary expansion of my horizons. I'm retired. No more expanding. Just want to hear what I want to hear.

Mar 6, 2012 7:30 AM in response to SimonTemplarby music_is_her_name,Simon [or anyone else],
I went through in detail yesterday your point that ANY remote device handshake w/ iTunes triggers this error--regardlesss of whether you want to access iTunes radio or not.
[As a result the SSA filed his OWN bug report to Apple engineering since his domain is IOS devices.]
Anyway, do you participate in any forums regarding high-end audio and/or music production with Apple products?
We are just finishing a major addition to our house and it includes and integrated sound system. Up to this point, I was considering using iPads as my in-room control devices. I am [partly] in the music production business: sound quality and reliability are a must.
Best.

Mar 6, 2012 2:02 PM in response to music_is_her_nameby MalcolmR,Today the service is up and down on diferent genres - all over the shop. Also, every time I hit my AirTunes network via Remote on my iPod Touch or iPad, it causes an instant refresh of the Radio Tuning Service. - and instant unresponsiveness in Remote.

Hey, M_I_H_N: Lucky you - sounds like a great project.
I have a decent AirTunes implementation across three stereo systems. I've taken more than a year on and off to add my entire CD library and digitize my old vinyl from the '60s and later into my iTunes library. I've been meticulous with metadata and field definitions, which pays off in useability. I do everything in Apple Lossless. And I keep Apple's iTunes Sound Enhancer OFF (it's a loudness tone control). One can devise presets in Equalizer and apply these to anything from a single track, to an album, to a genre or your entire library... whatever you wish. It is very flexible.
This system is excellent - and Remote on iPod Touch/iPad is killer (except when this bloody Radio Tuning Service error pops up and delays/freezes responsiveness). I did add an 802.11 router antenna booster to prevent dropouts and give me more range for my iPod/iPad remotes.
Feel free to e-mail me off line if you'd like to discuss further. malcolmross@mac.com
Best,
