Mar 6, 2012 2:58 PM in response to AkemiKatby jimmy boyfromchesapeake,It's soooo odd. Doesn't anyone who works for Apple or any of their family members listen to Internet radio on iTunes and noticed that something is amiss?
-
Mar 6, 2012 3:11 PM in response to jimmy boyfromchesapeakeby AkemiKat,I know.
I just sent off a 'Feedback' message through iTunes.
Wonder if they'll even see it.
Or perhaps, my iMac is so outdated, they're gonna force me to buy a new one?
Sorry. Not in my budget right now.

Whatever the problem is, it's not that. It is affecting every computer and every OS from OS 9 through Lion.

Simon,
I went through in detail yesterday your point that ANY remote device handshake w/ iTunes triggers this error--regardlesss of whether you want to access iTunes radio or not.
[As a result the SSA filed his OWN bug report to Apple engineering since his domain is IOS devices.]
Anyway, do you participate in any forums regarding high-end audio and/or music production with Apple products?
We are just finishing a major addition to our house and it includes and integrated sound system. Up to this point, I was considering using iPads as my in-room control devices. I am [partly] in the music production business: sound quality and reliability are a must.
Music....
There are a number of audiophile forums out there which I frequent. Probably the two I hit most often are audioasylum.com and computeraudiophile.com. There are many others, however.
I sometimes use an iPad2 for my system. In fact, at one point I even started cruising eBay and Craigslist looking for an iPad 1 which I thought might be had cheap, still in decent condition, and could be turned into a serviceable dedicated remote. Alas....they aren't. Or at least not at a price I would consider resonable for discontinued technology.
Also, as I keep my listening room in reduced (read: cinema) lighting, I found that the glare from my lit iPad2 was somewhat distracting. And turning the brightness down on the iPad wasn't visually appealing either. So, I eventually ended up purchasing an iPod Touch (the cheap 8gb version does fine) and a Universal Dock. This way, it is not so big as for the light to be distracting (or can at least be turned face-down) and it can be set up as a dedicated remote with nothing else on it.
If I have guests that need to be wowed....I still have the iPad at the ready. Otherwise, this suits my needs perfectly.
But....all of this is going astray fom the subject at hand. Email me at simontemplar@macdotcom ....I'd love to continue this discussion!

Mar 7, 2012 3:57 AM in response to Danger Cellby solidisme,Running iTunes 10.5 in London and not getting a connection in R&B (haven't tried other genres). If you have listened to a station recently, you can go into Music, then under Controls click Play Recent and if your station is there it will work this way. But still. Anyone have any news on when this problem will be fixed?

Mar 7, 2012 9:41 PM in response to Danger Cellby SimonTemplar,Well.....I hesitate to say anything for fear of angering the Gods. However, tonight for the first time in over a month, not only did I not receive an error....but it went through the entire iRadio inventory dump in less than 8 seconds. Yes.....I did time it. And I have reset everything and re-tested it 12 times. Each time was equally successful.
Right now, I don't know whether to be happy....or scared to death!
We shall see if this continues. Would like to think that the problem has been fixed. I REALLY would like to think so. But, Apple has fooled me on such things several times in the past.
On face value of all of this, and in view of the success recently reported by so many others, this appears to be terribly good news.
Music_is_her_name....should you ever find yourself in North Carolina, my wife and I need to buy you a beer. For I fear that, had it not been for your efforts at hounding Apple to resolve the matter, it may never have been addressed.
If this is still working equally as well 48 hours from now....I think I'll go dance naked in the driveway!

Mar 7, 2012 9:48 PM in response to SimonTemplarby John Galt,It's fixed Simon
I happened to be running a very old version of iTunes at the time (version 8.something) when it started working. So do all my other computers. Even OS 9. Even Vista. Heck, iTunes is that only thing that makes that computer tolerable.
Go ahead and dance. Hope it's warm where you are.

Mar 8, 2012 4:44 AM in response to Danger Cellby music_is_her_name,I have checked the radio tuner connection here in CT several times...
1. Seems to be much faster and it apparently works....
2. After each successful access of a genre, a 'stram count' is displayed....the stream counts disappear when you quit and restart iTunes
3. Access of your shared library by a remote device (iPhone remote tested) accesses ALL genres and updates the stream display for all genres...
4. Personal observation: I think Apple couldfind a way to acknowledge the existence of significant issues...The comments in this thread were [except for the Angry Bird component...and problems like this can bring out the Angry Bird in all of us...] thoughtful and helpful. Many participants seem to be shareholders and long-time Apple customers. Also 10,000 people accessed this thread and there are several other threads on the same topic. I will probably still follow up on this issue even though this particular problem appears to have been solved.
5. Simon: my wife and I may visit NC and we can trade beers. You are the one who noticed first, I think, the scope of the problem since EVERY remote triggered the issue. I will contact you outside this forum re other audio issues.
6. Malcom: I will contact you via e-mail...appreciate all your positive input....
7. Annie: thanks for concise, positive, helpful comments....
Best!

This release also includes many improvements for iTunes Match, including:
• Improved song matching
• Improved album artwork handling, downloading, and display
• Addresses an issue where songs may skip when playing from iCloud

Good luck with your music system. I'll look fwd to chatting some more with you. Meantime, all is once again well in my Airtunes network!
