Mar 2, 2012 3:37 AM in response to paoloniccolòby brycesteiner,It appears that Apple's server is just overloaded and rejects request. Right now it's working. There is no hotfix for our computers. Apple just needs to add servers to handle this extra.
For you who can connect at a certain time of day, but not others, be sure to drag the radio station that you like to the sidebar. It will then be there for you next time without having to refresh the list. You'll always have your radio then.

Mar 2, 2012 8:00 AM in response to susannafrompaby music_is_her_name,Dear Apple,
If you put yourself on the critical path to valuable/critical information (e.g., RADIO via internet), you NEED to make sure the service is RELIABLE--or people will seek other alternatives which are reliable. Once they find the alternative they are not likely to return.
My radio service--like others in this discussion--has been out for 7 days....
....with RADIO SILENCE from Apple!
Please help or at least state that you are aware and are working on a solution.
Thanks!

Mar 2, 2012 8:14 AM in response to Danger Cellby John Galt,It's been a long time since this problem first arose. Until it is fixed may I suggest the following workaround (cross posted from a similar thread):
Go to your iTunes and select your Music library from the leftmost column:
In the main window, sort the list by clicking on "size": (see *** below if you don't see it)
*** IF *** you are lucky enough to have played your favorite radio station recently, youmay see it included in your library, with the size indicating "stream". You can then play it normally, even though the "radio tuning service" is not working.
To make this even easier, drag the entry to your Dock, your desktop, or someplace else convenient. Opening it will open iTunes and start streaming.
Hope this works for everyone until Apple fixes things.
FYI this problem occurs on every one of my Macs and Windows machines running all manner of iTunes versions. It affects OS X Panther, Tiger, Snow Leopard, Lion, OS 9, Windows XP, Vista and 7. There is nothing we can do about it.
*** If you do not see "Size" then select "View Options..." from the "View" menu and select it:

Mar 2, 2012 4:06 PM in response to Danger Cellby SimonTemplar,OK guys....it is time for some creative whining to be done......
Go to the Express Lane Support for iTunes ( https://expresslane.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.do?PRKEYS=PF4 )
Go through all the steps of adding your hardware serial number and etc (even better if you're still under 90 day warranty or have an active Applecare policy)
And when you get to the part to enter a description of your problem......just enter the URL for this discussion. Additional snarky remarks are, as always, at your option.
If we can get enough people to whine and moan and, in the process, bury their customer support people with this problem....perhaps they might consider doing something about it.
Just a thought,
.....sT

Mar 2, 2012 4:21 PM in response to Danger Cellby AlonzoSoftware,I've contacted iTunes Radio and guess what I got as answer?
Yeah right, below the answer from Apples iTunes Radio:
As I'm currently able to open each category we kindly recommend restarting your computer and allowing the server a few hours to refresh.
So they don't see there is really a problem?

Mar 3, 2012 4:50 AM in response to britishaussieby michaelappleseed,This has all the signatures of a DDoS attack against iTunes Radio.
britishaussie's links show that iTunes has a list of categories of radio stations. Clicking on a category causes a request to an Apple database of radio stations in that category. Sometimes, the database requests work, usually they fail. Some categories fail much more cosistently than others.
The Apple response that they can't see any problem is because they used a computer inside the firewall that has sheltered access to the database.
By repeatedly trying, I have managed to get the lists of radio stations for all except the following categories:
Alternative Rock
Eclectic
Electronica
News/ Talk Radio
Top 40/ Pop
britishaussie's solution has the same problem as iTunes: when I try to use that method to get the list of iTunes radio stations for the above five categories, I always get an error. (For other categories, I sometimes get an error, and sometimes get the list of the radio stations, or I can just keep clicking in iTunes and eventually get the list.)
Apple must have some defences against DDoS as evidenced by the fact that, if one tries over and over and over again, one can obtain access to the iTunes radio stations in every other category, except those five, where the attack seems to have completely overwhelmed all of Apple's anti-DDoS measures.
The fact that no one has any idea of the appropriate corporate response to a DDoS attack is the most likely explanation of why Apple refuses to release any information about the problem.
