me.com calendars in iCal after iCloud transition

Hope somebody can help.

I have an iMac which my wife and I both use for personal use and a Macbook Pro I use for work. They are both running Lion 10.7.3.

I have moved both of our Mobileme accounts over to iCloud and have noticed some strange results even though our Calendars seem to be syncing ok.

On my iMac iCal Calendar I have noticed that when I click on the Calendar tab my 3 calendars are listed under the heading iCloud but on my Macbook the heading is my @me.com account.

If I click on the File tab and New Calendar on the iMac 3 options are listed, my @me.com account, iCloud and On my Mac. If I select my @me.com account no new Calendar is added but a new Calendar can be added if I select iCloud or On my Mac. On the Macbook when I try to create a New Calendar I only have the 2 options, my @me.com account or On my Mac.

Also if I look at iCal Preferences and Accounts on the iMac the Accounts pane has iCloud CALDAV but the Macbook has my @me.com account and the Description on the iMac is iCloud but on the Macbook it's my @me.com account.

On my wifes user account on the iMac her Calendar list heading in iCal is her @me.com account. When trying to create a New Calendar under the File menu she has 3 options, her @me.com account appears twice and On my Mac appears the once. In iCal Preferences, Accounts the Account Pane has her @me .com CALDAV and the description is her @me.com account.

I don't understand why there are differences between my iCal on the iMac and Macbook Pro and between mine and my wifes iCal on the iMac when they are set up exactly the same way?

Anybody know why?

This merely sounds like mis-labeled accounts and should be easy to solve by deleting the accounts on the computers and then logging back in using the correct account types.

First, log in to your iCloud accounts at http://icloud.com and make sure that your calendar data is syncing with iCloud. We want to make sure that the Calendar data exists on iCloud so it will be pulled back in when you re-create the accounts on the computer.

To be on the safe side in the affected user accounts on the affected Macs launch iCal and from the 'File' menu using the 'Export > iCal Archive' command make a backup of your Calendars.

Now go to 'Preferences > Accounts.' Delete the mis-labeled accounts by selecting it in the Accounts list and clicking on the '-' button at the bottom of the list. Now let's add the account back by clicking on the '+' button. Make sure you select iCloud as the account type when logging back in.

This should now label the accounts properly and pull in all the calendar data from iCloud.

Hi. Thanks for the reply.

I think I may of already tried this but I can give it another go.

Just out of interest what should he Calendar list be named as iCloud or @me.com.

My iMac says iCloud but my wife's account and my MacBook, iPhone and iPad all have the Calendars listed under my @me account.

Also why when looking at File - New Calendar are both iCloud and my me.com account listed? It's as if the old account name has not been deleted from iCal in some cases even though the account has and does not appear in Accounts in Preferences.

Thanks again.

By the way syncing seems ok, so far.

It doesn't matter - you can name it whatever you want. It's purely a descriptive label, nothing more.

If you want to change it, just go into the Mail, Contacts & Calendars system preferences pane, select the account in the left panel, click Details... on the right and enter the new name in the Description field.

It does the same for me too. It seems to be a bug. iCal seems to be seeing your AppleID as an extra potential place to store calendars, although it doesn't actually do anything if you try.

Hi.

I've tried renaming the Description for my iCloud account in the Mail Contacts and Calendars and you are right on my iPhone and iPad the Calendar list now comes under the heading iCloud. However, when I rename the account Description on my iMac and Macbook Pro the name changes in System Preferences but the Calendar list heading still uses my @me.com label.

Any further suggestions?

I just migrated my nieces computers yesterday and had the same problem with the labels in iCal being incorrect. I quickly corrected it by going to System Preferences > iCloud and unchecked Calendars to turn off calendar syncing. You will get a warning that your calendar data will be deleted but it is save to ignore the warning since the data is in iCloud and will re-sync once you connect again. Launch iCal and go you iCal's Preferences and confirm there is no account set up. If there is delete it. Now go back to System Preferences > iCloud and re-check the box for Calendars. Your iCloud account should now be added back to iCal and your calendar data should return as it syncs up with iCloud. The account label in iCal should also reflect that it is now an iCloud account.

Hi Gino.

I've just tried your suggestion re turning Calendar syncing off in System Preferences > iCloud and it worked. The account label now says iCloud. THANK YOU! This was driving me crazy. I think I have OCD, everything must be in order!

One more thing if you have any ideas. On my Macbook Pro, which is the computer I did the iCloud transition on, when in iCal and selecting File > New Calendar or New Reminder I just see iCloud or On My Mac as you would expect however on my iMac I see iCloud, On My Mac and my @me.com account. When selecting iCloud or On My Mac a new Calendar or Reminder is created as you would expect but if I select my @me.com account nothing happens. Any idea why the @me.com label is still there?

Regards,

Stefano.

On the iMac did you also perform the procedure to turn Calendar syncing off and on in the iCloud System Preferences pane?

If yes, try again but this time before you turn it back on launch iCal and make sure that no accounts show up in the Accounts section of iCal Preferences. If any accounts are still there delete them before re-enable Calendar sync in System Preferences.

If, after re-enable Calendar sync in System Preferences, the @me.com label still shows up it might also be because the calendar on the iMac has calendar entries under @me.com. In that case, in iCal, uncheck all the iCloud any On My Mac calendars and see if there are any calendar entries that still show up. If there are that may be your problem and to correct it you may just have to re-assign those entries to a different calendar or delete them if they are no longer valid.
