Why can't I connect to WiFi?

Why can't I connect to WiFi when asked for a password, but I can connect to the same WiFi if no password is required? When I type in the password, I get the following message, "There was an error joining the AirPort network "Verizon SCH-LC11 d8dd Secure".

When using my PowerBook G3 Pismo, running 10.4.11, I have no problem connecting to any WiFi that does not require a password.

But I get the same error message when a password is requested. I have removed the password requirement from some of my WiFi options, and make the connections and internet functions correctly.

PowerBook, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Judging from what you wrote, because there is something wrong with the settings or the password or passphrase. Make sure all devices use the same type of encryption, and make sure you enter the correct password. WRT to this, read

AirPort: Joining an encrypted WEP or WPA Wi-Fi network

AirPort: How to enter a hexadecimal 64-character pre-shared key for WPA

I have removed the password requirement from some of my WiFi options

Bad idea.

Thanks for Your time to reply to my question.

I have read and printed both articles referenced in Your reply.

I have tried using the quotation marks before and after the password, and tried the $ sign before the password.

Neither of these worked.

I did contact Verizon Help, and they said the password was a WEP Security System.

My wireless security on the Pismo is set to WPA Personal, and I have not succeded changing to WEP.

I have tried many of the examples posted in this Discussion group, without success at this time.

I have tried using the Hotspot address:http//192.168.1.1 and 1.7 as the address and i still can't connect.

Still looking, reading, and hoping for workable advice.

ps: Good advice on the "Bad idea" for removing passwords. I only removed the requirement for a couple of minutes, just to verify connecting the Pismo to the Hotspot.
