i cant find airport on my computer

I received an Apple IPad2 for valentines day and it will not connect to my wi-fi at home. My kids received IPODs for Christmas and those work fine with our wi-fi. I need help connecting because it is one of the main reasons for getting the IPAD.

Please respond to my home email address dcroteau1@myfairpoint.net and not my apple id because that goes to my work and I am not there on the weekends.
