Q: upgrade ram on imac

2GB of memory is enough to run OS X Lion, which you can purchase in the Mac App Store.

If you want to upgrade further, then go into your system settings, click on memory and thenyou should see a Button with "Memory upgrade instructions.

You can also look in your booklet that came with your mac called "everything else"

IMPORTANT: If you do anything wrong, you could loose your Warranty!

Lion will run on 2GB > OS X Lion - Technical Specifications however it would be best to have 4GB or even better a 6GB kit from OWC.

Yes I know, I have > iMac: How to remove or install memory and plenty of other Apple KB articles saved. However, while Apple states that the OPs iMac only supports 4GB of memory, it will in fact take and use OWCs tested 6GB kit.

All I'm saying is, that you people should know what to do, and the best instructions are those from apple. I would try out new stuff!

My point was to let nicholasjb know that there is a tested 6GB upgrade kit out there for his out of warranty Early 2008 iMac.

Both OWC and Crucial are highly recommended RAM suppliers here in the forum. I would compare there prices plus the shipping cost to see if it is still not a better deal than shopping around locally.

Unfortunately I can not answer your Lion, iCloud or @me.com questions, because I do not use or require those service for syncing my computers, iPad or other devices.

Your best bet is to pop over in the Lion, iCloud or MobilMe sections of the forum and ask around there.
