The reading list in Safari has stopped updating the read status in All (where links stay bold) and Unread (where they no longer disappear).
I tried stopping and starting bookmark sync, but the problem persists.
Does anyone have an idea what else I should try please?

Maybe you wanna check the Apple ID that iCloud syncs with, and maybe you wanna make an iCloud backup
I don't understand what you mean by this.
The syncing is working fine, it's just that when I read an item on the iPad the status does not change to read.
What purpose would a backup serve?
I fixed it by deleting my iCloud account, waiting a while and adding it back again.
