You can directly connect your MBP to your TV via minidisplay to HDMI adapter. You can also use AirPlay if you have an AppleTV.

Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support

You'll only get audio via Mini DisplayPort if you have one of thesemacs.
