Q: It does not work !

I have no way to run the AHT.  Mine is a Lion pre-installed.

Pressing "D" just slows down the reboot and get me to my login screen.

Nothing else.

Computer crashing, no software, everything online but doesn't work...  Apple is becoming a Microsoft !

Have been working on my laptop for days to prove that I have a lemon piece of junk.

Tier 2 ask me to do a diagnostic and it doesn't work.  They weren't aware that it is no longer available on Lion pre-installed.

Enough said.

Push D (not opt D) immediately after the boot chime.

    Hi,

You are right, Apple website, Tier 1 and Tier 2 are wrong!  Scarry!

I am so fed up with Apple right now.  My computer keeps crashing but they don't care.  About to go public with my nightmare.

I took your recommendation on Parallel and Eltima.  As a matter of fact, I installed clean with only apple software and still got the Kernel Panic crash.  AHT passed.

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. Back up all data before you go.

I did already over a month ago, and it ended up costing me because they used Apple Diagnostic and it all passed (Apple doesn't reimburse).

I have a lemon but they won't replace it (or parts of it).  I have tried everything and wasted over 100 hours.

Their support is curtious but not helpful.

Went from Apple lover to Apple hater.

If I was rich, I would destroy the MBP and ship it back to them with a nasty note (put it online).

Having said that, i am very appreciative of your pointers.

I think you do have a hardware fault, but if you haven't already done so, reinstall the Mac OS and test. Escalate with Apple customer service if necessary.

This latest panic was after doing exactly that, re-install on my latest HD (Momentus Hybrid).  I had prior done the AHT (which passed).

I also did a new install later last year (to satisfy Apple support), upgraded my RAM to 8Gb from Patriot, did mem test, and more.

I agree with you on the hardware fault, but unfortunetaly can't get Apple to understand (even at Tier 2).

I am a VP of IT who migrated most of our executive to MAC after my Snow Leopard experience.  Made purchasing decisions on thousands of PC.  I guess you only know Apple when you have had the misfortune to deal with their support processes.  My curse maybe...

It reminds me of my Microsoft days, which led to my move to Apple in the first place (glorious days with Snow Leopard).

    Have a good weekend.

That's what I thought, because it was clear on the Apple website.

Only Option+D worked, using Internet recovery because of the stupid new Apple way of no longer providing AHT in pre-installed Lion.

I am not sure if this will be of help, however I am having a very similar issue and I believe the issue is related to the Seagate Hybrid Hardrive.  I am running an MBP

    2.66HGz i7

    8GB1067 MHz DDR3

NVIDA GeForce GT 330 512 MB

    OSX 10.7.3

Hard Drive - ST750LX003-1AC154 (Segate Hybrid)

What I have discoverd is ever since I changed from my Hitachi 500Gb 7200rpm Harderive to the Segate ST750LX003-1AC154 Hybrid I have started to expoiernce Boot issues and Crashes.  Prior to switch I had never had a kernal crash or boot issue.

The issue has begun to get worse in that this morning I was not able to get the Boot "Apple" to come up at all.  After waiting approx 15 minutes I re-booted again and finally after about 3-4 minutes it responded.  This seems to be consistant in some way with the Hybrids learning curve that I have read about.  Over time the drive learns what to place where in order to improve performance.  I have verified that over th elast 3 weeks application performance has steadly improved, and the boot issue seems to be following the same timeline in that it gets longer and longer each time.

I have run numerous test and monitored all the temps with nothing being reported as a problem.

I am about to re-clone my drive back to my previous drive, re-install it and see what the outcome is.
