how to reconnect an ejected external drive

I have ejected the external drive in Finder as the Time Machine Backup was slowing me down too much the other day. Now that it I have completed the intensive task I am ready to reconnect. Is the only way to "activate" the drive again by unplugging the firewire and plugging it back in?

seems to me there has to be a better way.
