Q: iMac Wi-Fi update v1.0  : is it working for you?

I'm running Lion OS on an iMAC. Experienced the wifi - connectivity problems in regard to the Sleep function. In addition to this, I was also experiencing multiple drops in connection throughout the day- sometimes 40+ drops a day. iMac was also running extremely slow.  Reconnecting was not always easy, I would get multiple "time outs" and other times my network couldn't be found at all.

Since updating yesterday as per a gracious poster who posted this update

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1501?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

my iMAC is running faster. I have only had the wifi connect upon sleep problem twice, but it resolved itself quickly when I found my network and just clicked on it in the drop down. I have not had any drops since. I'm wondering how others are faring with the new update?

The new patch didn´t fix my "no wifi after sleep" problem.

Waking using the power button works though.

    Peter,

Some people are still having some problems but your seems to be extreme....

    ! is not good....

I am not familiar with any systems in Belgium.

Do any of your neighors have a wireless network?

Can you Join their network from your location or are they too far away?

Do you have an Apple Store nearby you can take it and have it checked out?

It is strange that all your other devices can connect except your iMac.......

There seems to be a problem with the way your iMac is talking to your wireless device.

Obviously they don't like each other anymore....

Will keep my ears open but I don't have any other ideas for you at this time.

I'm using a iMac late 2011 with Lion pre installed. I wasn't experiencing the annoying wifi drops once I was connected, but I was experiencing the usual wifi connection problems after waking from sleep. After the latest wifi update, my mac has not faulted once when connecting to my router. For everybody's information, I'm using a Thomson Box II router 802.11g, which is the router supplied as standard by my broadband provider, who is O2 (UK)

    did NOT work for me...

I m still deconnected while I am on Internet : suddenly and with no reasons.

Actually it seems it tries to reconnect immediatly but does not work every time and while you re visting a page it means safari has to reload it

    I use late 2009 iMac

    software updates are done

And I had NO problems with snow leopard...

I can also say I got no problems with win 7 business laptop :/

I really am disappointed by Apple not being able to manage with wifi technology that is not really new anymore...

NKPG, I am no longer losing my connection while visiting a page, however, I am still also experiencing the connection problem when waking the iMac from sleep. It isn't happening every time, like it was prior to the update, but when it does, it usually connects quickly.

Today, I did encounter one time when I woke the computer and it would not connect. What worked quickly for me was unplugging my router for a minute, then replugging it in and then rebooting. I guess for now, it is better than it was, but I have to wonder why the update is working flawlessly for some and why some of us are still encountering problems. Like I said, my problem now is not nearly as bad as it was, but it would be great if my machine ran the way it should.

Lorandreas, so it seems that rebooting is working for you. Hopefully Apple will figure out exactly why some of us are still not helped 100% by this update, and why some of us are seeing some improvement but not total improvement.

I have a 21.5 (i5) 2011 iMac and i must say that this update doesn't work for me. I even had not so much Problems after wake up but more and more connection losts while working. This doesn't change with this update. I think that maybe the Problem could be the compatibility to my Fritz!Box 7270.The Fritz is a central part of my Network and i have to deal with mixed mode, cause of some older devices speaking only 11g. A few weeks ago i bought a WiFi Dongle for the iMac and deactivated the onboard WiFi. This solves my Problem and i have a much stronger connection, 300 MBit instead of 117 of the OnBoard one. I hope Apple will solve the problem.

2009 21 inch iMac.  Worked fine under Snow Leopard.  Got the intermittant wifi drop out and drop out on sleep after updgrading to Lion.  We have 3 wifi networks in the house - issue is the same regardless of which network we use  - not a router issue.  Also have multiple ipads, iphones and a 2010 iMac running Lion with no problem.  Only the older imac running Lion.  Ran the update.  No change in status.  Still not connecting after sleep.  Still intermittent drop outs of wifi.  Apple needs to post another patch.

This update doesn't fix the problem for my iMac. I've problems with Wifi since I updated to Lion, before it was working fine on Snow Leopard.

I have a MacBook Pro with the same version of Lion installed, and no problems with the same router or Wifi signal. The problem is only prensent on my iMac.

My 21.5 inch 2009 iMAC is still having problems, too. Still random drop outs, while not so many problems with the sleep issue anymore.   I did not have problems with Snow Leopard, either.

My cable company contacted our area this morning via email to say they would be doing work on the lines for internet/phone from 1-6 a.m. in the coming week. I somehow doubt that will make a difference, I just hope it doesn't make it worse

While this update definitely "improved" things for me, it did not solve them 100%.

    I have 2 iMacs a 24" and a 27" plus 2 MacBook Pros. All running 10.7.3....

I have Wi-Fi reconnection problems after sleep with all Macs although not as often with the MBP. This is really starting to get to me. I have tried to install the Wi Fi update but get an error messgae saying that it isn't suitable for my system. I assume that it was included in the latest OS update.

I have tried all suggestion from these support pages. Just don't know what else to try. I just wish Apple would come out and admit that there is a problem and say that they are working on it. Their silence is so annoying.

    Regards to all.........

24'' iMac? That's got to be one of the older ones:  The reason the update might not be working for you, is, it is for late 2009 machines and up.  That is the reason for the error message.

    Hi rockeeeeeeee.

Yes the iMac Wi-Fi update did work on my 27" iMac. Just not sure what to do about the 24". The problem still persists but it's not as bad. Both Macs are running 10.7.3.

    Thanks for your help.

    King Regards

    Gary

Gary, is your 24"  Late 2009 or newer??    The v1.0 update is recommended for late 2009 or newer machines

My suggestion would be to check your software update a few times a week. Chances are, there will be one rolled out for other machines, soon, too.
