When I connect my wife's iphone 4s to my computer I get the message that the pairing record is missing. I do not get the same message when I connect my iphone 4s.

What is the exact wording of the message... I've never heard of "pairing record missing".

Okay, so connect the device again. Try syncing. Document the exact error message.
Without knowing the exact error, it is extremely difficult to troubleshoot the issue.
It's kind of like taking a car to the mechanic and simply stating "It does not run", or going to the doctor and saying "I am sick" without providing any other details.
Try simply rebooting the computer; that's what worked for me.
