i have recently updated to iPhone 4s and want to use my old 3g as a dedicated mp3 player. I have turned off everything phone related i can find yet when i connect to my scala headset it still sees it as a phone and won't allow me to connect my 4s. Is there any way to disconnect the 3g as a phone and have it recognised as a dedicated ipod?

Thank you for the link, but what I need is for my scala headset to see the phone as an iPod and not a mobile. I have a channel on the headset for a dedicated a2dp mp3 player and a separate channel for a gps /mobile. I then connect my iPhone to the gps but it does not allow me to play music via the gps. When I try to connect the old iPhone it sees it as a mobile and disconnects the gps even though I have no sim card and have turned off everything I can think of that relates to a phone. I can still sync it with iTunes. Is there some way I can force the 3G to be seen as a mp3 player and not a mobile?

No. Operating an iPhone without wireless service, i.e. like an iPod Touch, does not change the hardware configuration and identification of the device. You can't "spoof" the phone to appear to other devices as anything other than what it is.
