unlock my ipod lock screen if i forgot the 4 digit pass word

My daughter changed her password on her ipod touch, and now she does not remember the 4 digit lock screen passcode. I have held down the home and power button, when it starts back to itunes, it asks me to restore, but when i click restore, nothing happens except when i slide the lock, it keeps asking for a passcode. help please.
