new to mac. how do i find out what my macbook password is? i thought it was the same as my apple id, but its not. how can i get that information???

yes, that is for all macs running OS X Lion.
um....how do i even start to do this? i have to shut down the computer? and then put it in the "boot" screen? (im such a rookie :-/
That's ok 🙂
1)Restart your computer while holding the "option key".
2) You will see two orange hard drives. Select the one on the right that says "recovery disk".
3)After that, the next screen will bring you to recovery mode.
4) up in the top, you will see this:
5) click on utilities as indicated in the above screenshot and chose "terminal" from the dropdown menu.
6) Copy and past this into terminal without the quotes "resetpassword".
7)Confirm the user account and then the password change and reboot Mac OS X 10.7 as usual with your new password.
