Add photos to Iphoto automatically

I am looking to find out how to automatically add photos to my library anytime photos are added to my computer. Does Iphoto do that?

iPhoto '11, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

You can setup iPhoto to open whenever a camera is connected to the computer for importing the photos into iPhoto. But when a photo is just put on your hard drive there's nothing that you can do to automatically import it into iPhoto.

However, you can create a folder with a Folder Action attached to it that will import into iPhoto any image file dropped into that folder. You can have the action delete the photos after importing into iPhoto. The photos can go into an new album that you name or an existing album.

The folder action is created in Automator as follows:

User uploaded file

But you will have to direct all image files to that folder for them to be imported into iPhoto. iPhoto will open when the folder is used.
