airport extreme is not detected when I press scan, running windows 7

airport flashes amber. did this the first time connected to my computer. had someone sove issue and it worked until I got messsage to update firmware. my password was not accepted so I followed directions to reset password. do not know if change was successful as device now flashes amber and is not discoverd by utility scan. I am totally frustrated with no idea on how to proceed. just purcchased in Dec 2011. help greatly appreciated.
