Installing Tiger on iMac G3

Ok so I managed to get my iMac install disk out but now i have tried to install the Tiger OS X and it loaded then to tell me I needed the firmware update. Ok so I clicked restart and then held the mouse key but now the tiger disk wont eject. The program wont load up to the install screen either. i have tried multiple times and thus far i managed to get a green screen and by holding down shift got a blue screen then a purple one. Hmmn???????

With the iMac powered ON, insert the straightened end of a large paperclip into the far right side of the optical drive's slot. This will initiate a manual ejection of the disk, after which you should restart the iMac to reset the optical drive.
