Recently got the iphone 4s and it seems to take about 3 hours or more to charge it to its' capacity using the provided wall outlet accessories. i'm wondering if that's normal or what? would it be faster to charge through the computer? any information is appreciated. thanks!

When the battery is depleted or close to it, that sounds about right.
It will not be faster charging with your computer.

Most lithium-ion polymer batteries use a fast charge to charge your device to 80% battery capacity, then switch to trickle charging. That’s about two hours of charge time to power an iPod to 80% capacity, then another two hours to fully charge it, if you are not using the iPod while charging.
