suddenly i can't turn off my iphone 4s. when i slide the power off bar, it just restart the phone automatically. in the meantime system drain a lot of battery about 15% per hour. does anyone has any idea about this?

Thank you. I tried that serval times. It worked once. And I even put the phone into the DFU mode. but the problem is still there. Could that be a hardware problem or maybe I should take it to apple?

If you try all these Steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step... Be sure to make an appointment first...
I forget it can be power off only when I plug usb connector both to MBP or power adaptor. ...what a bad luck!!!!
I have the same problem with my iP4S. In can't turn it off, it always auto turn power on except i plug usb connector with a PC or a charger. 4S auto turn on again when unplug.???? (sorry for my Eng)

It is OK now. I took it to Apple. They told me they cleaned the connector and plug and claimed they could not find the problem I mentioned. But I am not sure what they really did. when it came back to me, I found everything is OK. I know this is not helpful for you, but I STRONGLY suggest you to take it to Apple. They may find a way out of this.

im having the same issue,i used to be able to plug my phone into a docking station to charge and hold the top button down to shut down the phone but it would still charge,but ever since 5.1 the phone just restarts,so how do i now charge my phone with it turned off?.btw its a 4s.
I'm still using FW5.0.1 Sorry for me, i'm in Vietnam but my ip4s was bought in Korea, i can't take my phone to Apple or AASP in Vietnam... :(

Same problem here. If plugged in, the phone won't stay off. If unplugged, it will.

I think it is a common problem. And we cannot fix it by ourselves, including hard restart, restore or even dfu mode. Maybe the best way to solve it is to take it to Apple.

Yeah, it is OK now. I don't know how they deal with it. They just told me they cleaned the plug and then problem was solved. For the now, I am also confused about this.
I think they didn't tell you the truth. May you remove the back-cover? Then,if you see 2 white-seals on 2 screws -> they only cleaned the plug as they said. If not, they fixed hardware
