What does the number mean?

This should be easy. In my library on some of my projects there is a number in parenthesis. This is not the number that tells you how many shots are in the project, but one that follows the name of the project. What does the number mean?

Right now I'm dealing with an iPhoto import so I'm not sure how I've got them set to import. Currently I've got them organized by date, but in the Library sidebar the projects come out organized by name and then date. So, "A" for April leads the pack and included are some projects with names that begin with A that were not shot in April. They are not really chronological at all. So, the projects "Archaic's Studio" has a date of September 11, 2003 while the projects "At The Range" have March 12, 2006 and for "At the Range (1)" has a date of January 1, 2007. Here's a screen shot.

My File Naming preset is:

Version Name Custom Name Image Date.

My Folder Naming preset is simply "Project Name".

I've changed it to :

"Project Name/ Image Month/ Image Day/ Image Year". But I see no change at all in how the library projects look in the sidebar.

Should I change that to: Image Year, Month, Day and then Project Name to get a chronological view in the sidebar?
