Go to Canon's support site and see if they have updated drivers available for Lion, if they don't you may not be able to continue to use it. Also take a look to the right for others with the same issue (there are some) and see if they found a solution.

I have a similar model scanner (LiDE 30). The drivers and the CanoScan software are Power PC. Canon is not supporting these models for Lion. Fortunately, you do have other options...

1) VueScan (http://www.hamrick.com/) - Easy to install and use scanner software (no drivers needed) that will support a large range of scanners. Unfortunately, it's a bit pricey ($40 for a standard license, $80 for a professional license). You can use the unpaid version if you don't mind having watermarks on all of your scans.

2) TWAIN SANE (http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/) - I chose this option. It's free, but it is a bit more cumbersome to install. The installation packages, essentially, create a driver that will allow your computer to recognize your device. Once installed, OS X's built-in "Image Capture" app will become your scanner's primary interface.

Do note, that with either option, you will no longer be able to use the buttons on the scanner to execute functions (no fix for this, sorry). You ask me, that's a small price to pay for continued usability.

I just purchased VueScan for my LIDE30 and am initially unimpressed with the quality. I have not been able to produce a "copy" approaching the same quality of the previous Canoscan program. Has anyone else experienced this that you are aware of?

The TWAIN SANE does not look easy to install. But maybe I will have to try.

Would you know how to get a refund from VueScan? It could be that I will have to dispute the charge on my credit card, now that I really don't see the quality in the program.

I didn't have any issues with VueScan's quality when I tested it out. Never purchased the software, myself. A quick check of the FAQs on the developer's site informs me that all purchases are final and there are no refunds. 😟 Probably should've done some testing with the trial version before committing to the full purchase. Hindsight's always 20/20.

OK, found out how to do it...

@baquibiswas was half way right... but you need to first install the CanoScan driver.

Oddly, even tho its meant for OS's older than 10.7, somehow we still need to install the driver for the Mac to see the hardware.

So, get your driver here...

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan _lide25#DriversAndSoftware

If needed, select 10.6 OS, and download and install (seems to take a LONG time to install, but be patient), restart.

Then, do as @baquibiswas said, goto "Image Capture" app, and away you go... (but again slowly, thats an old scanner, takes forever to "warm up" but again patience pays (and we dont have to pay ViewScan 😁

All the best, let me know if it works for anyone else...
